Literally signalling (ie telling people about) your virtue.

Stuff like Je Suis Charlie, pussy hats, setting your Facebook profile pic to be the flag of the Eueopean country with the latest terrorist attack.

A good example is this video clip from the Australian TV show John Safran vs God. In Australia a popular form of virtue signalling is to hang a plaque on your house saying you acknowledge the aboriginies as the traditional owners of the land.
