Topic: Why do Generation X not get hate?

Anonymous A started this discussion 9 years ago #63,586

Millennials get hate. Baby boomers get hate. But why not the generation in between both of them? The closest thing I've seen to Gen X hate is Obama hate since Obama is Gen X.

Because while the "Millenial generation" spans a period of 30 years or so, Gen X spans 6-ish years. This is precisely why the whole business of generational labels is retarded.

Obama was born before 1965/66, the typically quoted border years, so he's placed in the boomer range.

As to hating generation X, they were often described as slackers, practically with a capital S, meaning not merely lazy but persuing slack as a way of life. The more generous descriptions described lack of opportunity compared to boomers who found it easier to get anywhere in life. There were also descriptions of bitterness and cynicism compared to the hippie youth, although it was the later boomers that saw the growth of punk rock and first wave industrial music. The generation X youth actually got to witness the rave/electronic scene come to fruition, and see indie label "college" rock become major label alternative rock. But then they all took too much heroin and killed themselves. Only Beck Hansen survives; the loser became the winner.

I think it ought to be, but my marketing text book showed it as a tiny demographic, which is why I say the whole business is garbage.

Because we, Generation X, did not do anything bad. We invented the internet, cell phones, personal computers, we had the 1980s with its cocaine, money, and music, etc. We are the best.
