you know what the romans used to do? abandon their unwanted babies on a hill to die of exposure or animal attack. it's actually the origin or Romulus and Remus, the mythological founders of Rome who were raised by a she-wolf until they were men. but, back then there was a very, very high mortality rate for women due to complications of childbirth, so it must've been pretty physically and emotionally grueling for people to get rid of unwanted pregnancies. In some parts of the world women would drink small amounts of poison to cause miscarriage, but of course that was just as lethal.

we should be thankful that modern medicine gives women safe options that can terminate a pregnancy early, and emergency procedures that can save their lives during very late term complications. we should also be respectful of the fact that there are so many regulations surrounding it to minimize suffering, and takes into consideration that late term pregnancies shouldn't be terminated except in the most extreme circumstances.

And we should be tankful we don't have to look at hillsides full of decaying babies being picked at by crows anymore.

Since I assume most are aborted before they have a central nervous system more complicated than a snail, the real concern is why did these foetuses exist in the first place. A lot of resources could be saved by avoidance of that. Has that been studied, classified, and enumerated?
