Topic: The bro code: My friend has started bringing his new partner to the pub for drinks with the guys

Anonymous A started this discussion 9 years ago #63,367

What would be the best way to tell him that this is not cool, since it's only the lads for after work beers on a Thursday. We have been getting together for a couple of beers on a Thursday for many years, and no one brings their partners.

Breaking the bro code like this sucks. Especially if she has shown up twice now like she's part of our Thirsty Thursdays, and putting him in a position to say she can't come sucks for him and reflects badly on us too.

We had a couple of extra guys with us for a few drinks, but they headed off early because the conversation was shit, half muted and toned down with her there. Usually we have a running joke auctioning off the girls in the bar amongst ourselves, and other such pissing contests etc but now that's kinda fucked. She doesn't buy rounds either, we just buy her drinks or something now.

What should I say to him?

No, but would it make any difference if his girl is his friends ex partner? Because that was a dick move too

@OP
so...what your saying is...you and your lads are resentful of her presence because you feel awkward behaving like dicks when she is in your company..

Just act like you normally do and make her buy rounds, she will either chill out or just stop coming.

Say nothing. All agree to use a different pub but don't tell your friend

Do you two not spend time with just your mates? Do you not have any friendships or something?

@previous (McWalter)
Yeah that was the general consensus we had. Fuck this, go elsewhere and ditch him, he'll figure it out... But that's being a cunt, and I'd rather have a word to him. I'm just wondering what's the best way to say something.

So what you are saying is, you sit by yourself if you ever go out. If you don't regularly meet with friends then it's not your advice I'm interested in. Thanks

Obviously I do. You want rid but don't want to tell her to fuck off because you are anxious that it will damage your friendship. She probably sees it as wanting to see what her bf and his friends do and integrate in his life more. Pretending like she is just another one of the guys is the only way, chances are good she will lose interest or if not then there is no change to the dynamic.

Tldr work your angles

You are calculating this all wrong. She's a slag and she will probably do you next. Do you really want to upset her?

I say treat her like one of the guys. Be especially crude.

You made this question and you have not manned up.
You need to tell your bud how you feel. If you cannot be honest - I need say no more.

Man up!

Also, it's not like no one wants her around. Any other night is fine to bring along a gf or wife and of course it's expected you would. We can all get together and have fun then too.

She's showing up when it's just the guys on a Thursday for an hour or so after work.

I'll probably go for some passive aggressiveness when shes away from the table and put the heat on him to tell her to stop showing up. Or I'll nudge a buddy to say something and back him up, because we are all thinking it.

How the hell is she supposed to know its just for the guys?

It's pretty obvious. It would be like inviting herself along to a regular boys weekend fishing.

Shit, he better know he can't bring her to stuff like that too.

Is she at least easy on the eyes? I mean of course if she is ugly I can understand why you do not want her around.

Just slap the bitch the moment she walks through the pub door. She won't come back. And if she does, slap the bitch again until she gets the message.

That's a weird sentiment

I'll take that into consideration. Thanks
