Topic: Are the Pokémon games fun?

Anonymous A started this discussion 9 years ago #62,919

I never played one. I heard they were RPGs. How does one make a game based on the Pokémon franchise?

One does not make a game in the Pokémon franchise, only The Pokémon Company can do that.

How long ago did people stop wandering around looking for Pokemon?

It was originally a game. You play as a young Pokemon trainer who just sets out from their small village to enter the world of the Pokemon League. You travel through several areas, collecting Pokemon and battling other trainers to train your fighting Pokemon. The goal is to defeat the different Gym leaders (who specialise in specific Pokemon types) and earn all the Gym Badges, which will qualify you to fight the Elite Six and become the champion of the Pokemon League. At the same time, you're given the mission to Collect 'Em All! at the start of the game. Once you do so, you get a really anti-climactic cutscene and you become an autistic Pokemon master.

Or you look up and notice girls. From that very moment the only game you want to play is...Playing with girls and girl parts.

There is a time to play child games. Then you discover more.

Syntax detected.

@789,595 (E)
Elite 4
or 5, if you count the fact that you always have to battle your rival at the end.

It's the elite six, because you always lose against the fucking third one and have to start again.

What was the first Pokemon video game? That kind of sounds like fun to be honest. I assume the combat is turn based? If I were to start playing a game now would it be too late considering the numerous amount of games there are or are each one standalone? The only Pokeremon I know are the meme ones, Slowpoke, Mudkip, Abra, Charmander, Squirtle, Pikachu, Mewtwo (by name only), and Meowth. It took me sometime to realize Meowth's name references the cat from the show.

There is no continuity between any of them? You can just pick the latest and not miss anything?

Is the game available on the Switch?

Anonymous E replied with this 9 years ago, 1 hour later, 1 day after the original post[^] [v] #789,907

@789,865 (A)

A gameboy game called Pokemon Green, it was a Japanese only game that was reworked and released in the West as two very similar titles, Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue.

Yes the combat is turn based.

Im each game you play as a young adventurere in different regions. There is no overarching story between the games.

I suggest Leaf Green if you're playing on an emulator on your PC. There's nothing for the Switch.

Do the colors in the titles have any significants?

Anonymous E replied with this 9 years ago, 4 minutes later, 1 day after the original post[^] [v] #789,911

@previous (A)

They represent opposites. Red/Blue, ruby/sapphire, whute/black, x/y.

Each generation of game comes with two releases. They are almost identical, except each has some Pokemon the other does not. Therefore, to catch em all, you will need to trade Pokemon with someone who owns the other copy of the game.

That sounds like their way of getting money from completists, but from what you said, it sounds like you can still obtain the Pokemon not featured in the specific version you get. Is trading done online?

Originally trading was done by linking 2 Gameboys with a cable. Later they added Nintendo wireless adapters but now it's done online.

There's also plenty of ROM hacks that allow for obtaining all Pokemon within one game.
