When I was 12, we'd meet putside shops and walk to school via the back roads, always arriving late. There was this old lady living on one of the rows of houses who would look out of the window, and we'd always scream abuse at her (like accusing her of being a peado rapist for looking at us, being generally threatening and stuff like that... and I think we'd throw stuff at her house, like fruits we'd bought, or sweets, or just trash we'd got from the shops.
I don't quite remember but I think that at one point on of use (don't think it was me though) broke the window by throwing a rock at it. I realised about 2 years ago when I thought about that time in my life and remembered her that she wasn't looking outside that window to 'have a go' at us, she was probably just lonely and wanted to watch other people go about their business so she could feel even a tanglible connection to someone else. I felt so guilty about what I did and allowed to happen in my presence, and that old woman has always been on my mind since, even though I don't remember what she even looked like. I was walking those old streets again a few months ago to get to my friends house and decided to apologise to her for possibly ruining her day everyday for a year and causing her misery and sorrow, but she was already gone. The people living there didn't know about her. I think she died.
I don't think I'll ever forgive myself for being such a horrible little prick as an early teenager.
