Rarely, and usually when the animal feels threatened, they may harm or kill a human. This is easily avoidable.

Even modern hunting involves using guns, and other advantages.

Anyway, I don't see killing and eating particular animals to be uncivilised. I always try to eat meat from farms where the animals were treated humanely.

I can understand the reasoning behind being a vegetarian and vegan, I even know a few. But none of them would ever try and say an animal life is comparable to a human life. It doesn't matter if a human is still an animal, it's a higher form of animal with complex thought processes.

We are omnivores by nature. IF humans aren't to eat animals, then other animals will eat other animals. Vegetarianism/veganism for health reasons is acceptable, but vegetarianism/veganism for some stupid moral conflict is just insane.

I guess you will just have to accept that some people have different values to you. I too am a vegetarian and I think it's totally unnecessary to eat meat. For me, it's like this:
1) The animal MUST die for us to take its meat
2) This death is unnecessary
3) They will be made have babies to have this same thing done too
and to boot,
4) Someone will profit from this.
I've pointed this out to other people and they'll have plenty of arguments at hand. Namely:
A) The animal won't have to live in fear of predators and could have a nice life while it lives (so not all meat is immoral).
B) Animals kill and eat each other all the time.
C) They just admit they don't care about animals
D) They're too tasty to give up, they just couldn't bare to do without it (practically identical with C)
But to me :/
A) Yes, they're taken away from predators, but they're ultimately put into the care of the most threatening predator of all.
B) Animals don't have a developed brain. They aren't as clever as us and they don't really have the capacity to rationalise whether killing and eating other animals is a good or bad thing (nor do they have the tofu or quorn).
C) Difference of values. Maybe they ought to, but you can't really make them.
D) With this one, it's like they're admitting eating animals is wrong but they don't have the will power. Possibly worse than C. Just lazy and despicable in my opinion.
TL:DR you can be rational about your own behaviour and act right but it's very difficult to bring someone around to your own ideas and values. Best not get too angry about it. You can only mind your own actions.
