In the early days of the internet it was such a common practice it was essentially the standard. A few people still do it out of pure habit, a habit they just never let go. Its also common practice for people in certain positions within communities, that way their name can easily be carried on with pasta copy. Outside of those reasons its just dumb and redundant.
