Father's Day is last because fathers really don't give a crap about having a day dedicated to thanking them. Just comes to show how needy bitches be.

That shows weakness on your behalf if she has to call you. She brought you into this world, FFS. Probably bought you your first chili dog, FFS.

9 and a half hour time difference. both need to have internet on to call. i'm more likely to pick up if she calls me than the other way around. also i didn't have a chili dog until 3 years after moving out. also i'm not really a fan of her.

Well, that's depressing. Don't call her then, I suppose. I'm not a big fan of my mother either but I surely show her that I care in any way possible.

You don't know the whole story there. Not my place to tell it but trip is good people.

honestly the only reason i still talk to her is because if i don't, she'll bug my brother until i do. also because she's horrible at taking care of herself (homeless for... 2 years?) so i wanna keep a very mild eye on her. other than that, fuck it. if you want your children to treat you well, treat them well.

You should introduce her to Bert.

update: we spoke for 43 minutes. well mostly she spoke. this involved her telling me not to dye my hair, and i'll see why if i watch the red-headed league (adaptation of a sherlock holmes story). i kind of lost the logic but it was something about redheads and being used to hide debts? which iirc isn't really the plot of the story at all.
and then about 15 minutes of telling me how awful my dad is, interspersed with "i don't want to tell you bad things about your dad"

But it isn't Mother's Day though.

Were you all like "Then STOP DOING IT!"?

She was probably just teasing you to prolong the call and just really angry at your dad. I'm sure she appreciates you taking the time to give her a call.

that doesn't help
i just browsed the internet and went "uh-huh" every once in a while
@previous (A)
dude no
she told me that the reporters on tv are sending her coded messages she locked me outside in my pyjamas in the middle of a calgary winter
i'm sure she appreciates the call but i could not give a single fuck less
anyway
i'm glad you have a good relationship with your mum, happy mother's day to you both

That very well could be true, although unlikely. >she locked me outside in my pyjamas in the middle of a calgary winter
I cannot defend her on that. It's very harsh, unless she had a good reason. > i'm sure she appreciates the call but i could not give a single fuck less
You don't have to... What matters is that you tried being a decent son. > anyway > i'm glad you have a good relationship with your mum, happy mother's day to you both
Our relationship isn't all that great. We've just learned to tolerate each other. Also, thanks.

distance helps a lot ime
if we lived nearby i would never be able to relax and i would be 100% of the time freaking out on her. i cannot relax around her.
we got in a fight about... i think, my grades? mind you, i always had decent grades, just sometimes they dipped into the 70s. in middle school. where it doesn't matter. and it's usually pretty volatile but short-lived. like an hour or two of.... stuff happening, then we retreat to our rooms for a while and ignore each other until the morning and pretend like nothing happened. except she asked me to take out the kitchen garbage so i did, assuming it had blown over, only to find out she locked me out. calgary winters get to -30. there was knee-deep snow. i was wearing a t-shirt and sweatpants. i don't care what kind of fight we got in, that's indefensible.
besides that, fucking slamming my head into the ground, like between the wooden framing of the sofa and the hardwood floor, is also indefensible. she's got at least 100 lbs on me. she made me drop out of high school. i fucking hate her.
ah. i know what you mean. glad you've found that balance, at least.
