You yanks seem to think the BBC are the pinnacle of journalism, well I'm about to shatter your conceptions. The BBC are an evil organisation. They try and trick people into paying the TV licence, even if they don't watch TV. The rules are you only need a TV licence if you are watching or recording live TV as it is being broadcast or if you watch iPlayer. If you watch YouTube or Netflix or any other catch up sefvice then you do not need to pay the licence. Just owning a TV is not a prerequisite for needing a TV licence. If you use a TV for gaming or DVDs, you don't need a licence. The BBC will still send round their goons to try and trick you into thinking you need a licence. In some cases they will take you to court if they think they have sufficient evidence.
