Serious question atheists: if life can be generated from nothing, why can't it be generated in the lab? I mean you say some pond scum got struck by lightning and it became life why hasn't it happened HUNDREDS of times?! ?

Abiogenesis is an interesting question. No one knows. Most leading theories posit it took billions of years and some luck. Some theories say it almost certainly happens if the conditions are right. No one is really sure.
Why can't it be done in the lab? Probably the same reason lots of complex systems can't be generated in a lab. Computer models and likely hypotheses? Got thousands.
Why can't you engineer colonizing bacteria into multicellular life at will? Probably the same reason you can't make a butterfly in a test tube into a hurricane with a probabilistic model.

I heard an interesting theory once, so I'll try to explain it.
If you look at the basic definition of life, it's just a pile of atoms that's efficient at wasting energy. And the whole universe gravitates towards it.
So if you shine light on a rock for a billion years, eventually it'll be getting better and better at collecting suns energy and wasting it, thus evolving into living shit.
From the tiniest microbes to us humans, all we do every day is take something and convert it into energy to be used.
tl;dr keep putting energy into even dead matter, and eventually it'll form into something that'll be better at using that energy.
