Winter. No snow! Which means no road salt so cars never rust.

Things (especially housing) are a LOT cheaper than coastal elite cities.

What bad things have you heard about it?

I live in a city known for cheap rent. It's entirely possible to find a decent apartment (with roommates ofc) for $200/month, all-included.
You have a point about the lack of snow, but that's also a thing on the west coast or the Mediterranean.

Bad things: mostly social. More overt racism, sexism, homophobia. Less access to medical care (ie planned parenthood), birth control, abortion. Not much to do.

I've never seen any myself. I'm not saying there isn't any but there aren't, you know, Klansman driving pickup trucks with rebel flags on them.

> Less access to medical care (ie planned parenthood), birth control, abortion. Not much to do.
I just checked on Google and there are three Planned Parenthoods within a 30 minute drive of me in Houston. Every doctor prescribes birth control and you can buy condoms in every gas station.

Edit: just checked the PP website and only one of the three offers abortion but it's still an easy drive.

There is a lot to do in the city center, but the suburbs are bland. Which is a pattern you'd see in any city, even NYC or Toronto I'd imagine.n

I do remember that. They had wanted to make abortion centers meet the standards for hospital surgical wards in the interests of """"""""women's safety"""""". Because you know what if there's a medical emergency and the abortion center hallways are only 72" wide instead of 96" wide it could endanger the women. Rick Perry cares so very much about women's safety, really, it has nothing to do with restricting access.

Jokes aside, I do find it funny though that when it comes to regulating abortion liberals start sounding like Milton Friedman. It's like they have some kind of tunnel vision libertarianism where they see the price and availability of abortion - and only abortion - as being negatively impacted by government regulations.

No they view abortion as a right protected by the Constitution, not a good like eggs or a service like FedEx. I don't personally know any liberals who think that government regulation has zero impact on the price or availability of goods, just that having a perfectly efficient market is not an end in itself. Markets are a tool we use to achieve some other higher order desire. Sometimes they work mostly unregulated, usually not.

> Constitution
Serious question though: how could the Founding Fathers have had an opinion on it considering abortion as we know it didn't exist in 1790?

It's like those 2nd amendment arguments people make that it that doesn't apply to AR-15s because all they had was single shot muskets in 1790.

How can "freedom of the press" apply to entirely online news organizations? How can the 4th apply to infrared cameras and gps tracking devices? It's the underlying principle of the thing. If there is a "right to privacy" like Roe holds, then abortion cannot be outlawed because it's the government infringing on your constitutional rights. The specific ways in which they could be violated are not laid out in the Constitution and don't need to be.

let's bring it back to florida then!
> According to several reports by the FBI, Florida leads the U.S. in health care fraud, which it says is a $80 billion a year problem.
> FLARA said, “Identity theft is so acute in Florida that nine of the 10 large urban areas nationally with the highest rates of identity theft are in Florida."
> The FLARA report had the sixth highest violent crime rate in the country—murder, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault—according to 2013 FBI statistics. It also had the nation’s highest level of public corruption convictions, with more than 8,000 government officials arrested between 2000 and 2010, and 1,126 convictions, FLARA said.
> Florida has the nation’s “third highest proportion on unemployed persons who have been jobless for six months or more,” FLARA said, citing a 2013 Economic Policy Institute study.
> Regressive taxes: “The poorest 20 percent of Florida’s non-elderly persons paid 13.2 percent of their incomes in state and local taxes, compared with 8.3 percent for the middle 60 percent [of taxpayers], and 2.3 percent for the top 1 percent.”
> In 2011, Florida had the nation’s third largest income gap between the top 1 percent and remaining 99 percent, according to the Economic Policy Institute. ... Of the 50 largest U.S. cities, Miami was third for income inequality, a 2014 Brookings Institution report found. ... One out of six Floridians were below the federal poverty line, according to 2011 U.S. Census data.
> Citing 2010 Census data, FLARA said the state had the nation’s second lowest per capita spending for education at all levels. It ranked 50th—dead last—for state and local expenditures for higher education.
> Florida “received an F in the access to emergency care category, placing it 49th among states,” FLARA said, citing a 2014 American College of Emergency Physicians report.
> Florida has the most homes in the foreclosure—one in 346, as of January 2014—according to RealtyTrac. “RealtyTrac reported that 34 percent of Florida homeowners with a mortgage had a home worth at least 25 percent less than the combined loans secured by the property,”

For instance in my own family, we have whites, Mexicans, Native Americans, and Filipinos. With nearly everyone dating and breeding outside of their own race. How does your family look?

I guess you could use Uber to get to and from the bar? It adds a cost but drinking at a bar is like 10x the cost of drinking at home.

The U.S. health care system ranks dead last compared to other industrialized nations when it comes to affordability and patient access...The United States was also deemed through the survey as the poorest performer when it came to patients being able to get medical attention outside of daytime business hours.
The United States' health-care system ranks last when compared with other industrialized nations in regards to affordability and patient access
lower-income Americans are more likely than their counterparts in other countries to indicate that, in the past year, they've had a medical problem but did not visit the doctor because of cost, did not fill prescriptions or skipped doses of medications because of cost, or did not get recommended tests, treatments, or follow-up care because of cost. Indeed, the United States ranks last among the 11 countries in terms of financial access to care for lower-income people. ... obtaining timely primary care is a bigger problem in the United States than in other industrialized countries. Lower-income adults in the United States are more likely to report that they had to wait 6 or more days for an appointment the last time they needed medical attention and that it was somewhat or very difficult to get care in the evenings, on weekends, or on holidays. They are also more likely to have to wait 2 or more hours before receiving care in the emergency department. ... even Americans with above-average income report encountering some financial barriers to care at a higher rate than similar people in other countries.
“Adults in the U.S. are more likely to go without needed care because of costs and to struggle to afford basic necessities such as housing and healthy food. U.S. adults are also more likely to report having poor health and emotional distress" ... · One-third of US adults went without recommended care, did not see a doctor when sick, or did not fill a prescription because of costs. · Half of US adults struggled to get health care on the weekends and evenings without going to an emergency department. · Fourteen percent of chronically ill U.S. adults said they did not get the support they needed from health care providers to manage their conditions. · Fifteen percent said they worried about having enough money for nutritious food and 16 percent struggled to afford their rent or mortgage.
Roughly 40 percent of both insured and uninsured U.S. respondents spent $1,000 or more out-of-pocket during the year on medical care, not counting premiums. High deductibles and cost-sharing, along with no limits on out-of-pocket costs, may explain why even insured people in the U.S. struggled to afford needed health care, the researchers said....In 2013, more than one-third (37%) of U.S. adults went without recommended care, did not see a doctor when they were sick, or failed to fill prescriptions because of costs, compared with as few as 4 percent to 6 percent in the United Kingdom and Sweden....Nearly one-quarter (23%) of U.S. adults either had serious problems paying medical bills or were unable to pay them, compared with fewer than 13 percent of adults in the next-highest country, France, and 6 percent or fewer in the U.K., Sweden, and Norway....The vast majority (75%) of U.S. adults said their health system needs to undergo fundamental changes or be rebuilt completely.

Every Scandinavian country proves that though. Unfortunately it might not be that way for long if they keep allowing the rapeugees in. :(
