Other than as a TV observer I had nada to do with the landings You have in mind. Astronauts landings. Prior to real people landing on the moon their were a series of probes which mostly failed a horrid death/fail do to some truly stupid human mistrakes. Simple things like many probes failed cause people forgot to remove the lens cap prior to launch and that mistrake occured over n over n over again.The exception were landings by Hughes Aircraft designed n built Surveyor spacecraft. Those were designed and built in El Segundo and I got in on just one design element which was a last minute emergency design and they had an internal contest for a quick solution and I won that contest so I can say my design made it and although it was attached to the lander, it was designed by other engineers to detach itself about 18 or so minutes after launch so it never made it to the moon. So bottom line I have noting that ended up on the moon but can say the first Surveyor wood not have made it without my quick fix to solve a bug that prevented launch.
As a kiddlet back in my Ham Radio days I did play moon bounce. Early attempts worked out real good and the harder I tried over tyme the worse I did. Turns out every trick I knew to get a more better signal to the moon and back ended up being the opposite of what I needed. Took years for me to discover all the mistrakes I continued to make. I sure have made up for that with access to Megawatts of RF power and a mass of large microwave dishes around planet earth.
