The only STEM degree that you only need one degree to get a job in the thing is engineering. The others don't let you be a scientist or whatever with just one degree. They should mention that to the kids, "oh by the way you need a fuckin PhD to actually do this thing so if you find trigonometry to be a bit much now then it's going to be an uphill climb let me tell you".
Also, to be a doctor, you have to be good at remembering a lot of things. A LOT

yeah, no. it has its issues but i have never seen anyone say it is a bad university. people who want to work/live outside of canada often go here rather than to other good schools because it's one of the few with a world-recognized name and long legacy

Modern refers to ethos, not date of founding. The University of Baghdad was founded in 1067, one would hardly call it modern. By modern I mean they focus on doling out worthless qualifications rather than knowledge; they focus on making sure all students graduate at all costs rather than preparing young minds to gather, analyse, evaluate and interpret information.
