And it's quite disappointing. The new Unity interface sucks. Ubuntu's dock is just horrible, and makes the OS feel like a shameless South African knockoff of OS X. I have thus reverted to the "Ubuntu Classic" environment, which uses GNOME and is basically the same as Ubuntu 10.10. But at least I have some marginal performance increase from the new Linux Kernel. Maybe.

Windows is the most widely used OS, so it's bound to be the most targeted by viri. Were Linux the most popular OS, it would have the highest risk of viri. All you really need is decent anti-virus, and you're fine whatever OS you're on.

But some version of GNU plus Linux is run by over 75% of internet servers, so Windows Server ought to be the more secure server OS, since it's not as popular. But it isn't, because security is about more than popularity (or lack thereof).

I'm not really a masochist, but I do get a degree of pleasure from using one of the least popular desktop operating systems. I like the fact that a majority of the (non-1337) population has never even heard of GNU plus Linux, much less used it.

Oh, silly Meta. You know you can run the latest kernel without having to do a whole version upgrade, right?

Also, you may want to hang back a few versions with the kernel updates as well. Apparently 2.6.38-39 are fucking energy hogs, and they have some power issues that need sorted out. I don't know how much improvement you can expect.
