Topic: Computer without its skin [SERIOUS]

Denmark guy !jJEom8Ii3E started this discussion 9 years ago #60,367

I could have a computer tomorrow, if I just use a table instead of a computer box. While not the ideal setup, it can still do the job "pretty ok" right?

I have no idea what you are saying

Meta M³ joined in and replied with this 9 years ago, 5 seconds later, 1 minute after the original post[^] [v] #765,693

You mean just the motherboard on the table? Yeah it will work but you're at a much higher risk of damaging it.

Why can't you afford an Apple McBook Pro™?

That's incredibly good news. Thanks.

Also you can use the case from an old computer.

You'll probably want a power switch, too.

Just to be clear we're talking about you building a PC right?

I'm piss poor these days so that's not a option. One of the reasons I'm trying to quit smoking, this Frankenstein pc is going to be instrumental in helping with that.

If you ask around or look on Craigslist you should be able to find an old broken desktop PC for free.

Add a few shoeboxes full of old PC cards, a few routers and external modems, a pile of old hard drives, some old laptops, and a metric fuckton of various cables and that looks exactly like a closet I have.

At the very least you should put it in a cardboard box.

Don't fill his head with hysterical nonsense about dust and moisture. As long as he doesn't keep his computer in a sauna or leave it outside during a dust storm, it shall be fine.

That would cause it to overheat and set fire to the cardboard. Are you trying to kill him?

They need protection

You're right. OP should place his computer hardware inside a completely airtight sealed enclosure in order to prevent the ingress of dust andmoisture.

Computer cases are never airtight, for obvious reasons. If you had ever disassembled a computer after several years of use, you would know that cases don't keep dust off the motherboard, you mora.

Look, all I'm saying is he should put the computer in a box, cut some holes in the box, and he has a case. It doesn't need to be airtight and it wouldn't overheat and catch on fire. Thanks.

I'm planning to install loonix on a cluster of old Pentiums and then I'll proceed to hack the planet. If I link two 14.4 modems together I get 28.8 baud, right?

It's going to be on a square shaped night table, in the middle of it. I will perhaps cover the two openings a little.

It's working fine and dandy. But my goodness, why i have made it so that it's a standing desk is beyond me. But I guess it's healthier.
