The meaning of the word proletariat is "those who only possess the ability of labor, but not the means of production" and is essentially the common man. The problem of capitalism is that it's enabled the exploitative class to think they too are "the common people" at all. This is hardly the truth. In a pure society the means of production are not held in ownership, but in common. Administration of everything is done by the collective will. I firmly believe this is what can make a country operate well. In many cases, the specter of exploitation looms over the enterprise too much. The Soviet Union is a good case study of this.
