The domestic cat is very associated with humans. They are our responsibility. We need to understand the greater area that we live in when we consider the domestic cat's place in it. They are effectively an invasive species and cause havoc with the natural wildlife. In areas with coyotes or foxes and the like, there is some rebalance with the ecosystem as the cats become prey themselves. Also, consider the people that live in your area and how they may not want other people's animals on their property doing mischief.
