Topic: LGBTQ: what the hell does the Q stand for?

The Witch Doctor !6W1Zpe4MCM started this discussion 9 years ago #59,428

I know it stands for "Queer", but what does queer mean? Doesn't queer just mean gay, and isn't G for "Gay" already in there?

Anonymous B joined in and replied with this 9 years ago, 5 minutes later[^] [v] #756,225

It means 'Questioning', not 'Queer'.

Apparently it can mean Queer too. How does queer differ from gay?

"Queer" is a label used by edgy snowflakes to make themselves feel as if they belong to a special group of people, much like "goth", "punk rocker" and "juggalo" are.

But if it means what you said it means, then why is it redundant?

It's an insult which is being used in order to reclaim the term despite the obvious redundancy

Q can also stand for questioning, depends how political the person is

it stands for Qunt

Catherine !TGirlYJKXM joined in and replied with this 9 years ago, 2 minutes later, 4 hours after the original post[^] [v] #756,311

It actually has two meanings. Questioning and Queer. Sometimes there is a second Q added to the acronym. Queer basically means anything that doesn't qualify for the other labels. Pansexually could, in theory, be considered queer.

If this is true, then why have they recently added an 'I' ('intersex') to the ever-growing chain of letters.

For fuck's sake, I was joking earlier, but does nobody seriously know the answer to this? Has it escaped your notice how manufacturing special interest groups and bringing them all under one homogenous angry self-entitled umbrella is the new tactic of the American left?

Also, intersex is something different, it's biological conditions.

Yes, I read it. And before posting it you wrote "Queer basically means anything that doesn't qualify for the other labels". If that is true, why then the need for yet more labels, since we already have one which means "anything" other than the 4 we already had?
