It's like we're a real city now. Our citizens are actually passionate about something for once. Oh wait, it was just one guy on a street corner. He had a picket sign as to be expected. It read, "Trump will divide us" on one side and the other read, "Blame automation, not immigration."
That does bring up a good point. People would eventually shut the fuck up about immigration once people start being replaced by more machinery. McDonald'a now has automated kiosks.

I actually really like automation. I love the self checkouts, it's so much faster and there's never a line. I wish the McDonalds here had kiosks.

fast food is kind of a core for jobs-for-lots-of-people so that's gonna fuck shit up

Fast food jobs suck though. Even at $15/hr (which is like poverty wage in CA) they're still really shitty jobs.
I'm in Houston. Minimum wage is $7.25 or $7.50 now I think? Texas' minimum wage is the same as Federal minimum wage so there's not as much incentive to automate.

oh they totally suck
but there are people who need those jobs
who don't have other qualifications
people assume most fast-food workers are high schoolers but a huge percentage are supporting families

I actually worked for almost year at Wendy's when I was 17. I don't recall any of the workers supporting families. There were basically three groups of workers: teenagers, people who couldn't get better jobs because of drug issues/criminal records, and people with mild mental illness.
I'm sure there are people trying to support families on fast food jobs but it's definitely not a "huge percentage".

Almost 40 percent of fast food workers are 25 or older.
More than 30 percent have at least some college experience.
More than a quarter are parents.
...
And those wages are, by and large, quite paltry. Even among workers over the age of 20, about 79 percent earn less than $10.10 an hour.
