Topic: I demand a new name for my generation!

brie !kGoudaMCFA started this discussion 9 years ago #59,291

I'm not a fucking Millennial. The year rolling over to 2000 wasn't a generation defining event.

Millennial should mean people born after 2000, imo. People born in the new millennium.

Agreed. Pre-millennial millennial entitlement has stolen a generations name

That is what I thought it meant until the shocking day that I discovered that the (at the time) new term I was hearing in the media actually referred to me. It doesn't make any sense.

The Y2038 problem is probably going to be worse and it has none of the hype.

I presume the name meant anyone born after or before the new millennium. It makes sense for 90's and 00's kids. Not sure why it starts in the 1980's, though.

I assumed it was anyone growing up and hitting their teens in those years. You can be born in the 90s and you don't pop out of the womb fondly remembering grunge and heroin chic.

Fags existed in all generations.

It's better than 'Millennials'

Millennials tend to reject the name 'Millennial' according to The Atlantic.

But you may wish to take this issue up with William Strauss and Neil Howe as they coined the term. Here is their website. And here is an interesting article about the four turnings of society as mentioned by Vsauce.

The current generation is apparently called Homelanders.

What do you mean by "The current generation"? Babies? Children? Teenagers? Young Adults? Grown-ass men?

There are multiple generations of people currently alive.

I mean the younger children being born today and mostly to millennial parents.

And yeah, I should have been more clearer.
