I stand on their head if I can. If not then their legs, to at least incapacitate the bastards.

Outside I leave them alone. Inside, I murder them.

I am encouraged by the "Leave alone" votes. Spiders are our friends and help out around the house.

depends. if it's the bad kind you kill it, if not you leave it alone. around here black widows and brown recluses get the boot.

story time :D

when i was a kid we had these big oak trees out back and they'd get webbed up by these annoying hairy caterpillars, there's be like millions of them, and so of course we had lots of spiders when those things were around. i used to find spider webs around outside with big spiders on them and i thought it was fun to feed them. i'd grab a hairy caterpillar and toss it into the spider web and watch the spider go catch it, spin it up and bite and eat it. it was cool. it was cool because sometimes the caterpillars would escape. i always thought they were hairy so they'd stay warm... i was a dumb kid. turns out it's a protection against spider webs specifically. the caterpillar would get stuck in the webbing, and then start to shed the hairs. the hairs stayed stuck to the web, and the semi naked caterpillar would wiggle out and escape. sometimes even after being caught and spun into a cocoon. it was like my own personal gladiator battle and i was feeding Christians to lions or something.

anyway, one summer i found this bad ass little spider. mean as fuck. it killed everything. to keep it fair i had to toss two caterpillars on the web, because she was way too fast and could catch them over and over and over. she was kept very well fed, i'll put it that way. then one day my dad came running into the house and grabbed my mom to take him to the hospital, he'd been bitten by a big spider and needed to go to the ER. at the hospital the doctor had a book of spiders and after looking at the bite he showed my dad a picture and asked if it was that, and my dad said something like, "that's the fuck." i looked at the picture, and there she was, my gladiator queen. turns out i'd been keeping a brown recluse as a pet, and my dad walked into her web when he was doing the lawn. it was a very nasty bite, and over the next few weeks it looked terrible. it took 2 months for it to heal and it left scarring.

after that, any time i see one - even if it's outside - i say "that's the fuck that bit my dad" and give it the boot.

Depends. If it's black widow or brown recluse, it ded. If it isn't one, then it can stay, although it might be escorted outside in some Tupperware all the same.
