Topic: What is the goal of the protests?

brie !kGoudaMCFA started this discussion 9 years ago #59,131

Will they protest until something happens or is it for literally no reason?

What will they accomplish besides waving stupid ass signs around and getting rained on?

> or is it for literally no reason?

Yes, this.

> What will they accomplish besides waving stupid ass signs around and getting rained on?

Nothing. But they will maintain the illusion that they live in a 'healthy democracy'.

do you literally not know the history of protests and what they have historically accomplished? the goal is the same as it's always been, social change. in this instance it's a demand to not be marginalized and to have opinions heard specifically because we have no other voice to use with which to be heard. our elected representatives have failed us and are now powerless to actually help to it's not up to people to make sure their voices are heard. call your representatives. go out and protest. be heard.

that's pretty much it. beyond that, of course, is something different. but revolution starts with people in the streets, which again is the ultimate end. but, people want representation. we want our leaders to hear what we want and not just tell us what we're going to get. if it continues, then protests will turn into unrest...

I just saw a video where a guy was trying to interview the protesters and they just kept calling him a white, cis male. It's weird to me because those same type of people have a real problem with men using the term "female".

Your country was set up by extremely clever guys with the express purpose of ensuring that impulsive asshats like Donald Trump couldn't just fuck the whole thing up. My point is, American politics moves at glacial pace and you have a system in place designed to ensure everything goes through a meticulous process. If, after that process, they have "touched my social programs", well then suck it up buttercup, that's your republic in action. Do you think Republicans liked it when Obama forced through the ACA? No. But did they take to the streets to cry about it? Also no.

afaik to resist the destruction of our institutions. he's been packing every agency with retards and people who have spent their lives trying to destroy the agencies they now control. IF trump has a mandate, it's to build a wall and repeal the ACA and jail clinton. but they're talking about gutting social security, medicare and privitizing everything from highways to education. they do NOT have a mandate to do any of those things, and it MIGHT be true that the only way we the people can stop them from doing it is to literally be so disruptive that government can't function efficiently. it wouldn't be the first time that civil disobedience was used as a stall tactic and i bet we see it happen a lot in the coming years.

Yeah, they're Republicans, it's what they believe in. Again, they didn't like Obama's policies, but they didn't cry in the streets. They patiently waited until they had regained power through the proper democratic channels and could roll them back.

Again with the insults. Why can liberals never engage in a conversation with someone who thinks differently to them without hurling insults? This is why Trump won. > So you mean to say they planned to fuck up America's institutions for eight years?

No, because "fuck up America's institutions" is your own personal interpretation of their policies. Which is fine, you have the right to your interpretation and to express it. But don't assume you speak for others. What you think of as "fucking up" America's institutions is what others would think of as improving them. Again, always try to be open to differing viewpoints.

> Your country was set up by extremely clever guys with the express purpose of ensuring that impulsive asshats like Donald Trump couldn't just fuck the whole thing up.

our constitution is not a holy document written by a perfect god, it's a flawed document written by man and does not and can not consider every future possibility. it does require occasional updating, and it can certainly completely fail (which is why it's been amended over and over and over).

> My point is, American politics moves at glacial pace and you have a system in place designed to ensure everything goes through a meticulous process.

it's supposed to, but much of that has been gutted by years of partisan infighting. the filibuster is way, way weaker than it's ever been in the past and that was one incredibly useful tool for minority parties to use to have influence. without it, change can happen very quickly and at a much greater scale. your point kinda fails to recognize that this isn't early 19th century american politics happening here...

> If, after that process, they have "touched my social programs", well then suck it up buttercup, that's your republic in action.

if the majority of people in this country who rely on those social programs don't want them disrupted, then that's my broken government in action. that would mean all the corrupt crony politics of washington hasn't gone anywhere and just has a new gold-guilded facade.

> Do you think Republicans liked it when Obama forced through the ACA? No. But did they take to the streets to cry about it? Also no.

so... what you're saying is the ACA was generally well received and didn't have people rioting in the streets? that's true. people really only protest when they are fighting for social change, not just when they kinda don't like something. republicans are picking battles that are going to bring people into the streets to fight, democrats on the other hand pick battles that might make someone post their dissatisfaction on the internet. i wonder who's picking battles that actually cause real harm to american citizens, i wonder?

Look I'm gonna step out of this for a while because I've things to do, but here is my general point: Donald Trump is an absolute asshat. He is a brash, boorish, loud, shamelessly inarticulate self-parody. But it is the LEFT which is responsible for creating him. Not the 'deplorable' Republicans or the racists or the homophobes or whatever other insult you want to hurl at people in an attempt to silence them. The left created him. People are sick and tired of having their ideas chilled by the screaming, shrieking liberals. Look at this place for example. The first sign that anyone ever dares offer an opposing view and the liberals fall back on their default position of "kill yourself" or "shut the fuck up retard". The left needs to engage itself in some introspection now, but it is not doing it, they are blindly continuing the exact same 'tactics' which annihilated them as a political force on November 8th. This culture of shrill liberal fascism is what is "fucking up" America, not Trump and his board of 'deplorable' cabinet picks.

And yeah, very finally, the 14th Amendment has you all covered. This silly shit about "calling for social charge" for the LGBTQIALPDXN brigade is yet more liberal bullshit. Your system isn't broken at all, it works fine if the liberals would stop crying about it everytime the decision doesn't go their way. Speaking again of those crowds who are 'protesting' and some of the banners they're waving, I especially love how many millions of Americans have now decided to start being outraged about America's wars now that it's a Republican who is going to be dropping the bombs.

How many Republican presidents and congresses and Supreme Courts have there been since 1973? And yet has there ever been even the slightest hint that they would ever reverse, for example, Roe v Wade? And yet to hear CNN tell it, Trump and the 'deplorables' are about the chain women into an animal cycle of reproduction.

Ok, I am out now, maybe join in again a little later.

seriously? i mean... adding the ACA... a frame work for insurance companies and hospitals to work with a large pool pf buyers in an online marketplace... that's a small change. THAT'S a baby step... but gutting medicare, privitizing social security, turning highways over to corporations, killing the EPA, privitizing education, gutting ethics watchdogs... i mean i can't even list the entire agenda of destruction they've got planned, HOW do you reconcile THAT with your "it takes a glacial pace" argument? they're not trying to make a few tweaks here and there, they are taking a flame thrower to everything. it's like cutting your head off because you have a few warts on your fingers and toes!

All of you are so goddamn stupid it is unbelievable. 1) Protests are American, to shit talk them for any reason is simply unpatriotic. I'd expect the party that keeps talking about how they so love America to not be bad mouthing something that made this country great in the first place. 2) There is a god damn difference between riots and protests. The ongoing protests right now are about social matters whereas the riots that recently transpired in DC were Antifas related. 3) I've seen plenty of Trump supporters bitching that if Hillary won they would be rioting. I seen many channers who felt disappointed in not seeing those Trump riots.
