Open carry means it's visible. You need to get a permit to conceal it.
It's not as if someone is going to pull out their gun because you had too many items in the speedy lane.
Open carry would make me feel safer. Imagine if they had open carry on campus at Virginia tech. Whatshisname would have had a victim count of much, much less.
