I actually think it will be a roaring success. Until the Switch, you would have had to have had separate consoles for portable and home gaming. The Switch bridges the gap. Yes, you can play on tablets, but app developes won't put as much effort into their games as behemoths such as Nintendo will. Not only will it be portable gaming, it will be high definition, hardcore portable gaming. Portable fucking Skyrim. And the console graphics will rival PS4. It has a gimmick, but it is a useful gimmick. The games will be on a cartridge which won't take up a lot of space, you can take your entire game library with you. There are some downsides however, the battery life on the portable tablet will be pretty bad and the Switch is very pricey.

If Skyrim sells well It might get Fallout 4. I think for GTA we might get a sidegame like Chinatown Wars instead of a main series game since Rockstar hates Nintendo.

I think it will be successful primarily for the console exclusive titles such as Zelda, Mario, etc, which has been the main selling point of Nintendo consoles.

I don't think Rockstar hates Nintendo, as more so both companies both have opposing and opposite goals. Nintendo from a marketing perspective tries to present itself as a friendly-family console, by that I mean most of their games are marketed to people of all ages instead of limiting their potential buyers to a single demographic (parents of children age 6-10 are less likely to buy GTA, but both adults and parents of and/or children are equally likely to buy Mario.)
I think while they market their games to both kids and children alike, they still try to maintain the family friendly image. GTA, and the company Rockstar in general is a company that is ripe with controversy and although that has worked in their favor by attracting buyers who want a more mature game, it has more to do with the image that Nintendo wishes to represent.

I don't see a future for portable game consoles because smartphones play games almost as well. Just like smartphones killed MP3 players.
I could see the case for it back in like 1995 when the only phone game was Snake on Nokia but not today.

GameStop was taking pre-orders for the Zelda game along with the console. They had Odyessy too. So they may be the launch titles. I reserved my copy of Zelda and Splatoon 2 though.

Imagine it this way: parents buying games for their kid are stupid consumers. More so in the past, if they allowed say GTA:SA on the GameCube or even begining of the Wii era, than the casual gamers and parents would buy it for their 10 year old kid, causing complaints, and potentially ruining their "family friendly" image among casual gamers who aren't well informed.
Considering the imagage that Nintendo marketed when prompoting the Wii was the console being a fun activity for the family including Grandma, than it may just be me, but I see the marketing department at Nintendo butting heads with a game like GTA, even in today's area of gaming.
