Soccer is the original name for the sport where you kick a patterned ball into a goal. Once Americans adopted it Europeans suddenly decided it wasn't called soccer anymore, but rather "football", even though objectively speaking it is inferior to American Football, the true football because it involves both feet and balls. Europeans have been mad ever since.

Oh, you mean soccer is football the game where you kick a foot around with ball for 90 minutes while rarely using your hands like in American 'football'.

Soccer is the proper European name for association football, having been largely replaced by the vague term 'football' after a bunch of Chelsea fans beat S.A. executives with rebar and demanded a simpler term they could shorten to suitably retarded variations like footy.

Gridiron football and association football both originated from the same or very similar sports in the later half of the 19th century. 1898 was the first time a trashy English piece of shit who thought he was funny tried to make a joke about 'American' football allowing the control of the ball with a player's hands. The Englishman was promptly torn limb from dainty limb, having a soft physique much like your own.

Soccer is the game where people throw a ball and then run with it to the other end of the field to score a "touchdown". In America, it's known as "football", but it's known as Soccer everywhere else.

You kind of need to bend your arm and exert force pointing the ball in the direction you want to throw it and do a little spinny thing with the ball as you throw it.

The British term "Soccer" comes from the word "Association" in Association Football.
