They'll make like one or two trivial changes and rebrand it as Trumpcare.

They want to privatize as many social services as they can thinking that cutting off someone's survival line, and with the misguided assumption that people will donate just as much money as the government spends on social services to privatized charities to help someone who is not genetically related.

Something like companies being able to sell health insurance across state lines. Maybe cut the medical device tax a bit. That sort of thing.

What can we, as the public, can do to ensure we aren't doomed?

If you think Republicans are going to make minor tweaks to obamacare you aren't paying attention.

uh... you sound misinformed. who's talking about making improvememts? they are going to repeal it.

Yes, and replace it with basically the same thing but with one or two "conservative" reforms. Government can only go in one direction and that direction is bigger (as you may have noticed with the last four or five Republican presidents).

No one's even sure what will happen yet but I would be extremely surprised if they repeal it in any meaningful sense of the word.

That's metas schtick!

If it was sincere belief then he'd just be an ignorant dumbass who willfully believes his candidate isn't going to do what he says he will over and over.

So, schtick!!

Cathy you live in a state large and liberal enough to provide a system very similar to Obamacare effectively. Research other ways of getting insured. You don't have any income you can't claim dependency on your mom past 26 you are dumb if you don't look into Medicare or Medicaid for a disability status.

Wanting to play videogames all day and not grow up shouldn't be a valid disability status

As a % of GDP that is not even remotely true. http://www.usgovernmentspending.com/include/usgs_chartSp03f.png

And it can get bigger while getting rid of obamacare just fyi. Expect the military to get a lot more funding.

But only because GDP has grown. But the government exerts much more control over people's lives than it did 50 or 100 years ago. That always gets bigger.

Yeah but I'm not saying the GOP won't replace Obamacare with some other bloated federal program that doesn't actually do anything. Im saying they will repeal Obamacare in its current form. They will probably replace it with something that equally expensive but does an even worse job and has major kickbacks to health insurance companies while charging the sickest and poorest people the most money. Expect to see people who currently have health insurance lose it, and people who can currently afford healthcare be unable to do so under the Republican plan, if they ever produce one.

squeegee replied with this 9 years ago, 18 minutes later, 5 hours after the original post[^] [v] #747,470

it'll be like their infrastructure plan, instead of direct investment they'll waste a bunch of money giving kick backs to hedge funds that generates zero new building projects and instead turns a bunch of existing ones into toll road projects. we'llbe paying for that infrastructure twice, once in tax breaks to hedge funds and again as we pay tolls forever.

expect healthcare under republicans to double dip as well. and expect to pay a lot more per year just to transport yourself to work and back.

we do the toll roads errywhere thing in texas (thanks rick perry!) and now it costs me 3 dollars a day traveling back and forth to work. dallas has toll roads all over now. shit's impossible to get away from. you may not even know you're on a turnpike anymore, they just send a bill by mail to the plate holder...
