I had to put my stepdad's computer on Linux Mint because he kept having, um, troubles. Last year I got my parents a Chromebook and they couldn't be happier. I think Chrome OS is great for old people. Most of them just want to check their Facebook.

There were only 8 minor findings from MAB!
I think her woes are entirely from having too little RAM—2 GB! The resource monitor shows heavy disk thrashing and a pegged CPU. I'm pretty sure it's the usual IO-bound resource exhaustion.
I recommended she get somebody to install 8 GB RAM and an SSD.
