Yeah I'm not much into the Jesus thing either. I kind of like the idea of LARPing as a pagan and calling it "Yule" and celebrating it on the solstice. Cause if you think about it Christmas was culturally appropriated from indigineous European solstice festivals, and then they tacked on Jesus to spread the Christianity meme.

I always thought the "Holiday Season" meant that stretch of time between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day and it makes sense because it's a season with three major holidays in it. So you could wish someone a "happy holidays" and mean you wish them a happy Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Year's ie holidays in the plural.

American Civil Liberties Union Greater Pittsburgh Chapter, 492 U.S. 573, 109 S.Ct. 3086 (1989), for example, the Supreme Court was asked to consider whether Allegheny County violated the Constitution by displaying a Christmas tree, nativity scene and Hanukkah menorah on government property. The Supreme Court held that the crèche was an overtly religious symbol (which shouldn�t have surprised anyone), but that the Christmas tree and Hanukkah menorah were not (which probably surprised many Christians and Jews). In making that distinction, the Supreme Court said that the nativity scene had to go, but that the Christmas tree and Hanukkah menorah could stay.
Seems simple enough, but in an earlier case decided by the Supreme Court on a vote of 5 to 4, the Court held that a nativity scene on public property did not violate the law �when viewed in its proper context.� In that case, Lynch v. Donnelly, 465 U.S. 668, 104 S.Ct. 1355, rehearing denied, 466 U.S. 994, 104 S.Ct. 2376 (1984), the Court found that the nativity scene was permissible because it was displayed along with a Santa Claus house, candy-striped poles, a Christmas tree, carolers, cutout figures of clowns and animals, hundreds of colored lights and a large banner that read "SEASONS GREETINGS." I originally wrote a long post about cultural appropriation and how Christmas has no scriptural basis and one of the Popes just decided to rebrand old traditions as Jesus' birthday and that the early Puritan Americans actually tried to ban Christmas because it was a Catholic thing.
Then I deleted all that and decided it be more in the spirit of the season just to say I love like a bro. I'm glad to know we're on the same wavelength though.
Still, fuck Jesus and his pretend holiday.

Yes but mothers and fathers are really real things. If you want to set aside one day a year to tell your mom or dad how special they are or thank them for doing all the things they've done, then I think that is pretty noble. Grandparent's Day, Arbor Day, fuck.. Secretaries Day; these are all real things that exist. I don't begrudge you if you want to celebrate a holiday with family. I know some conservative Christian people I went to school with who care about this. But they live in like rural Alaska or some shit. To be honest I never liked Jesus much either. I think Christianity glorifies weakness instead of strength. I don't find it a very uplifting story. I mean the cross thing is just so depressing. Like Buddha lived to be really old and then he died peacefully in old age, and Muhammad went up to heaven on his magic horse when he was done writing the Koran. Those are good endings. Getting painfully nailed to a cross isn't.
I should write my own religion. I'll make it open source, not like Scientology.

The Jesus killing is a way to end the tradition of destroying your food in attempt to send it to the god that needs blood to calm his rage over our misdeeds. The story is that people are tainted ever since the disobedience in Eden, and we keep fucking up, and we kept needing to calm the god's tits with the blood sacrifices, lambs and whatnot. It's like gods are alpha males that need to be fed first and something in our pack animal nature made people extend the practice to the unseen top dogs. Jesus dying is often referred to as the "blood of the lamb" that was so significant that it finally calmed the god's anger down so that we didn't have to keep killing shit for him. Besides, it was often that the animal sacrifices were part of feasts for the people so the god wasn't even getting all the meat anyway at some point.

Also why are there "Judeo-Christian" values but not "Christian-Islamic" or "Islamo-Christian" or "Judeo-Christian-Islamic" values? Christianity seems like it has as much in common with Islam as it does with Judaism.

What is actually the deal with that? Like if you tell someone you don't believe Australia exists they'll just look at you funny. But if you tell them you don't believe God exists, they get very very upset. Is it because it's easier to prove Australia's existence? No, I feel religion has done a lot of good. Local churches bring a community together and help the needy and do all sorts of good work. Religion in general has, regrettably, also lead to a fuckton of bad things. I'm personally not a fan of religion, but I can't complain about people who genuinely feel the need to believe in something. That's their business and their right, and as long as they aren't launching any crusades or jihads or trying to convert me, then I'm probably going to be pretty cool with it.

Abrahamic? I think that's the word. I'm guessing Judeo-Christian became a thing because early Christianity was a Jewish thing, and Christianity just borrowed Jewish scripture and piled some gospels and few letters on top. So the Jewish scripture became associated with the Christian Bible.

Christmas brings decorations n parties n holiday food n PRESENTS and Friends get2getther n damn Christmas was in some way all about a Jew who got hung out to dry.
