one guy who I don't really like usually or ever showed up in a Donald Trump sweater that I think was the catalyst for my friends like... meltdown. not exaggerating. he went nuts.
he went nuts and started yelling at everyone for not listening to him and started talking about gravity and the Spanish American war and I'm like what?? just sitting there and everyone is looking at each other like omg. night ended at like. 3 am. we just ran out his house. but he kept texting our other friend after we left. like 40 belligerent mean cussing texts for no reason. he was attacking him for being a liberalist and a trump supporter and someone who doesn't care about politics at all (this one is true) all at the same time. but he didn't do anything!
all my friends are going nuts. this guy is usually really level headed and good natured. he only had like 3 beers and a shot. why! why. ugh

If I have a conflict then it helps if I use my I statements. I would recommend using your I statements and telling your friend, "I feel sad when you're mean to be, instead I wish you would be nicer and stop being mean."

We're living in some very unusual times. I suppose it's unsurprising that some people are being strongly affected.
I hope your friend levels out and gets used to the situation. By all means he can disapprove of Trump, but there's no need to lash out at friends like that.

The electoral college vote was only the other day. I think a lot of people in the bargaining phase of the grief process were hoping for an electoral college coup and now it's failed to materialize they have to confront reality.

Your statement confused me. I was trying to offer some advise for OPs friend since I perceived OP as asking for advice and I happen to know quite a bit about friends and owning friends.

it's pretty misguided to compare people's political beliefs to the grief process. it wouldn't be considered part of grieving to have armed civil war or rebellion which happens when people are marginalized and lose political representation. trying to marginalize a majority of americans as "sore losers barganing in the grief process" is a pretty dangerous way to treat political opposition.
take it seriously or liberals will do it for you.
