Topic: My nephew isn't a furry is he?

Anonymous A started this discussion 9 years ago #57,919

Just because he wants to walk around in a bear costume doesn't make him a furry, does it? Take a look them. https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2/163-1417487-6409419?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Bear+mascot He's expecting to get one for Christmas and doesn't seem to want anything else but a bear costume. Please tell me this isn't a furry symptom.

How old is he? If he's 5 than it's completely normal. If he's 13 then not so much.

I did some pretty odd things at that age such as wearing a coat with one sleeve rolled up all the way up to my elbow because I thought it made me look like a badass final fantasy character. It's probably nothing to worry about and chances are he'll grow out of it. Just set some reasonable limits such as no dressing up as a bear while at school/in public.

What is the point of a bear costume then?

He obviously really likes pretending to be a bear

The costumes creep me out badly, but some kids are just naturally creepy

Do you have any experience with that?

Wildchild !NvEXY0NyQI replied with this 9 years ago, 10 minutes later, 10 hours after the original post[^] [v] #743,030

Just let him dress up as a bear at home. The more you try to resist it, then the more desirable dressing up as a bear will be.

I can tell by how obsessed he is about getting it that he would wear it until somebody forced it off of him. He can be a bit stubborn. I was thinking, with all of these animal simulator games, there might be a bear one that I could download on his tablet and he'll forget this whole bear outfit thing. I also found it strange that it HAS to be a bear costume. I don't know a lot about furries but I assume that they all also just want one kind of animal costume.

Let his parents deal with it. There's really no right or wrong solution, but your brother or sister probably know their kid the best and are better able to make a more informed decision.

Someday they'll able to inject stem cells and remix the genes so people will actually be able to grow fur and claws.
