So the Russians exposed how crooked Hillary is, how the DNC worked against Sanders and elevated Trump for Hillarys gain, and showed USAmericans how corrupt their Democratic politics really are from their own words... If there was nothing to expose, there would have been no effect. But it was very damaging. Why be upset at the whistleblower?

Russia has also been doing that for as long as we have lol. A lot of the times we were supporting capitalist dictators was because Russia was supporting communist revolutionaries. The issue is Russia hacked both the DNC and the RNC, and they will weaponize it during a trump administration just like they did during the election against the democrats, a fact which republicans seem to be ignoring because they are so giddy to be back in power. Which means basically that Russia has the U.S. government by the balls. That is not a position I want the U.S. to be in.

I would not be surprised that the Russians were able to phish John Podesta's account. I mean, the USA was listening to Angela Merkel's phone calls ffs. I do believe Vladimir Putin has both the Republican and Democratic parties' emails at his disposal. I also think it would be stupid for Putin to release it and inflame public opinion against Russia because the emails have nothing in them. There's no "smoking gun" in them at all. I spent several hours looking at Podesta emails on Wikileaks and to be honest with you it's several hours I would like to get back because the Podesta emails are nothing. Maybe they will have some value to future political scientists to analyze how a presidential campaign is run but ultimately they make Hillary look better. If anything, Hillary and her campaign were too scripted and cautious.
I don't believe the Podesta email leaks impacted the result of the election. I mock the anti-Russian sentiment because I feel the Democrats are using it to avoid confronting why Hillary lost. Instead of just, like, admitting that Hillary was a weak insider candidate in a change election they blame "fake news" and "The Russians!!!11!"
I also mock it because I think America has nothing to fear from Russia and I would very much like America to avoid war with Russia.
It's just like earlier this year when Fake Anon accused me of changing my position on Crimea because of Trump when my position on Crimea has remained unchanged since 2014, over a year and a half before Trump even began his campaign.
But alright though, let's say for the sake of argument that Putin himself personally leaked the Podesta emails to kill Hillary's campaign. What difference does it make if it was Putin or some disaffected DNC dissident. What difference does it make? The messenger was Russia so let's shoot the Russians! There was no evidence of any wrongdoing in the Podesta emails. Nobody was swayed by them. It's just like the Pussygate tape. Everybody (myself included) already imagined Trump said things like that. Could you imagine how pathetic it would be if Trump and his campaign just kept moaning about how it was a Bush family plot to discredit him (given some credence by the fact that Jeb!'s cousin was actually in the fucking room with Trump when the tape was made)? It doesn't matter if it was Billy Bush that leaked the tape or some guy who found it when he was cleaning up the Access Hollywood archives. The tape says what it says. And so do the Podesta emails.

The key claims are based exclusively on the unverified assertions of anonymous officials, who in turn are disseminating their own claims about what the CIA purportedly believes, all based on evidence that remains completely secret.

This, I think, is where the fundamental difference in opinion lies.
If it is some random citizen, or even a domestic politician who leaked the emails, that's not as bad. Those two examples, at least, aren't a very dodgy government with international reach.
The Russian government, meanwhile, does indeed have very questionable, and anti-democratic motives alongside considerable influence and resources. And there's not much reason they should stop trying to covertly influence foreign elections either. So it sets a frankly terrifying precedent that might be combated if governments and people are aware of it going on, and know where any leaked info might be coming from.
