Many people find whatever bullshit they can do on their phone or tablets to keep them busy enough that they don't bother getting into real computing. So I think that the old nonsense about kids being computer whizzes and their parents are computer retarded might become outdated, if kids don't spend much time with serious computers as much as they would have if it was the 1980s to 2005, say.

i've got a couple of nephews who are big into computers. they both love gaming and the oldest one is learning a bit of coding. he wants to do business, so he's not going real deep into programming but he does a lot of web stuff these days. he also builds his own PCs and keeps them maintained and upgraded himself. it's one of his hobbies, and something i helped foster by teaching him how to work with hardware and use the web to troubleshoot problems and that kinda thing. he's an advanced user compared to most people his age, but will be eclipsed by anyone focusing on it pretty quickly. he's certainly comfortable with computers and understands how they work well enough that it's not a magic black box to him.
the younger one will get the same treatment when he's 13. we'll teach him how and have him build his own pc and learn to maintain it. he's looking forward to it. he's 11 and knows he'll get his own one day so he talks about it and wants a case with lights and stuff like mine :3
