Sounds about right. The percentage of people who identify as transgender in the US is 0.3%, however they're more likely to be younger people who have a significantly easier time coming out (it's not easy) then in the past due to changes in gender norms and acceptance in gender variance (LGB people more or less accepted). Any other time, then it would be beaten out of you, and you wouldn't be able to come out. However, there are cases of "transgender" people in more than a handful of ancient cultures, and even in US history as early as the 1800's, you just don't hear about them because they were underground.
Due to social stigma and isolation, then transgender people are more likely to use the internet as a primary source for communication and socialization, along with the younger mean age of the transgender population.
No less than 3 transgender members, no more than 5 is my estimate.
