Higgledy Piggledy,
My black hen,
She lays eggs
For gentlemen;
Sometimes nine,
And sometimes ten,
Higgledy Piggledy,
My black hen!

Nursery rhymes are known to have been written in times when it was dangerous to express criticism of the powers of the state, the church, or society in general. What might be the underlying meaning to this rhyme?

The narrator of the rhyme is a common whoremaster pimp, advertising his new prostitute. Higgledy Piggledy, he bellows, hear this, he says, I need your attention. I have a whore for you that'll go nine, maybe ten, lays one after the other with you gentlemen. Come and get it. This is top shelf, exotic stuff, and you know how wild the dark ones are.
