Should be sturdy and decent for games. Would like to buy from Amazon because buying from the manufacturer takes so long. Probably not a Lenovo this time because I had issues with my last one.

Even ASUS's shitty netbooks can game decently. In 2009 I played WoW and Guild Wars on the cheapest eee pc available and it worked a charm.

I mean, anything can run WoW but it was still impressive to do it on a laptop the size of a small paperback.

All of the laptops marketed as gaming laptops are embarrassingly designed, like an '80s idea of what futuristic laptops would look like. The fucking colors, what? How am I supposed to take this crap to court, I would have to cover half of it up with Hillary stickers.

With your budget why not get a respectable looking $1500 laptop and a dedicated pc console like the Alienware alpha? It will be able to run what you'd like to at even the base spec, the configuration that was 500 on Black Friday would be more than enough.

So you can flip it over, fold together and watch/read shit in bed or draw on it.

Had one for a few days the display is amazing. Personally I'd always pick a Thinkpad T460 over anything (just because it's indestructible) but they don't come with discrete graphics.

If I needed dGPU for gaming yet didn't wanna look like a 12year old on meetings, I'd pick the surface book.

Dell is, when you buy the better ones (which that one is). Just like with HP and Lenovo, the consumer ones (the $299 you buy at Best Buy on sale) are cheap and flimsy but the business ones are nice.

What kind of battery life do you need? You could look into a gaming laptop. The problem is there's not much overlap in the venn diagram of business laptops and gaming laptops.

Eh, it's either build quality with no discrete GPU or gaming shit for most of the laptops these days.
You could look into the Thinkpad P50, Thinkpad quality with discrete GPU (workstation GPU, but still GPU). Fits your price range as well, and doesn't include 4294875 eye cancer inducing LEDs.

There are some workstations from HP as well.

A lot of times I'll tab between work and games in the evenings/weekends, and though I use Google Drive to store work docs, it's still a pain in the ass to have to switch between computers. I'm also just as hard on the home laptop as I'd be on the work laptop (leaving it on all the time, having cats crawl on it, likely dropping it and spilling shit on it), so it's not like I could have a fragile gaming laptop and a sturdy work one.

I'm not asking for much in terms of gaming, so I think it should be doable to find a happy in between, or maybe not, idk.

HP ZBook, something along those lines:

https://www.amazon.com/HP-V2W13UT-ABA-Commercial-Specialty/dp/B01BA5IBEA/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1480893682&sr=1-2&keywords=hp+zbook+g3+15

But honestly, my first choice would be Surface Book, second would be P50, then last gen MacBook Pro (new ones with touch bar are shit) with installed Windows, and then this ZBook (had both, grate and shit experience with HP so mixed feeling, business line is generally top notch, but still).

Yea that is so common And so easy to fix so it stops going bad. I first used superglue to reinforce but my mechanical Skills Are legendary Bad. Someone reminded me of the need to hold it together And At the same time Still have flexibility - Solved by laying down black electricians tape on A Plastic cutting board - X-ACTO knife strips - then wrap at the interface of connector to plug And multiple Think pads endure - Its something you can do if you get a teck to fix it Again and then you do the wrapping - I used tweezers
