This could be good. These two could be a right pair.
I like talking, talking is fun.

the ayes have it.
green, we can have a discussion as long as you follow the rules the moderator sets forth. first of all, no back talk. second, you are wrong.
so what's the topic of our discussion? according to the moderator i get to veto any topics i don't like.
@737,884 (squeegee)
Einstein's Theory of Relativity.
Can I be a special guest? I'm a long time poster too. ;_;
Squeegee, during the days of Minichanopolis in the Blue^2 and Blue^3 eras, what would have been your plan for dealing with external threats such as HighPerch?
@738,049 (Catherine !TGirlYJKXM)
I don't think Green likes you.
@738,044 (squeegee)
If a spaceship was travelling at almost the speed of light and it fired a cannon ball, would the cannonball gp at the speed of light?
@previous (Green !BEERiVqJJw)
no, but it would go faster than the ship. it would come closer to the speed of light than the ship but not reach or pass the speed of light. another interesting question about ships at near light speed is what happens when they turn the headlights on :d

well, the plan with highperch didn't work very well because we got away from our raiding roots and settled. on SSSS.me we moved frequently, didn't have a "main base" for most of the game, and spent a majority of our time raiding people. initially we were following the example of a faction i encountered called AIRRAID. they didn't build, they didn't claim, they didn't farm/mine. they just raided. they had no base, all they built were small outposts which they abandoned frequently, and they bribed players to help them raid other factions. they were literally unstoppable. the entire server banded against them and our cities still burned, and our citizens did too. there was no guarding against their playstyle. you could win battles, but they always won the war. the simple reason was they never had anything to attack except for them, and when you were fighting them it was because you were defending against them.
this is the original model i wanted to replicate on ssss.me, and it worked pretty well. all the bases they ever found were either temporary shelters to house a faction spawn, or they were decoys. we also demotivated them from hunting for our vault by attacking them after they left their huge sprawling city base.
but, the vault eventually turned into a base and we settled in and started being builders. that was right around when we left ssss.me, because they took away factions and basically gave everyone protection because we were so disruptive.
when we started on blue the plan was to build very close to spawn a
huge castle that would act as a giant decoy base, and to build our secure vault elsewhere. basically the same plan as before, but we never got rolling for several reasons. first of all most people didn't like raiding so much and wanted to build stuff. so we never really had the same kind of army on blue that we had on ssss.me. blue was also already pretty old, and everyone on the server, especially highperch, had untold wealth. r04r was able to clone the server and set up a duplicate and we figured out where their weaknesses were and how their base was built and they had some super advanced grinders for their time. they had everything on farm.
for us to come in when we did we had a lot of catching up to do. even with everything we built up we never got close to a full prot 4 set of armor and weapons. i didn't anyway. and that was standard kit for highperch, enchanted too.
and none of that existed in the airraid days, so going after highperch the way airraid could come after Haven ended up being a failing model. plus they were dedicated raiders and knew all the tricks. they had us on our heels from day 1. we did try to disassociate the "base" from what started as our decoy castle, but too much stuff had been built under it. since most people didn't want to raid, AND we needed to make a lot of progress to even become raidable, we never got back into the groove we had on ssss.me. the castle was never really secure, because there isn't a secure way to build any structure in that game, all you can do is make it take a long time for them to gain headway. the structure itself was partially destructible by design, to at least make an attractive target to draw fire away from more vulnerable areas, but eventually highperch figured out it was easier to just glitch in.
i had planned to build the castle interior into a dim and dangerous maze filled with traps and monsters so when they DID glitch in they'd have a hard time getting out, but that's about when we started losing players because people weren't having fun anymore.
i think that's also the server where the admin would warp to our secret locations and then give the coords to highperch. we had a secret mine setup for a week or longer and everyone kept going after the damn decoy castle. everything was working great, we'd go to the castle for fun PvP and rebuild walls and sit in grinders from time to time and then go to our real base to set up more permanent digs far, far away. but every time i'd end up seeing the admin flying around outside and then later the same day highperch would be glitching around in the branch mines.
i think that was the same server.
anyway, i think we could've handled highperch with decoys and evasion just fine if not for a corrupt admin. i suspected he had another account and was actually in highperch. idk, no proof.
i think i'm remembering that right, we played on several servers. ssss.me was the best though, too bad they fucked it up for us.

enchanting really kind of broke minecraft as far as survival factions goes. it's a shame, really.
