China is making themselves the new America while America slowly drifts into the second world.

yup. and while america turtles up and grows weaker as a result, china will start moving their manufacturing to the middle east, southeast asia, and north africa and enrich their citizens all while investing in heavily into education and high tech industry to replace the low paying manufacturing jobs they contract out to the third world. they're going to run their country like a business and profit heavily from investing in themselves and contracting out work that's too low paying to be bothered with. they'll embrace globalization in a way that'll enrich the entire hemisphere. it's a long term plan and they've been working it for 30 years. it's a plan WE tried to do, dissolve sovereignty with trade arrangements and consolidate into a world power. it's how the united states was born, and we were going to engulf the entire hemisphere through free trade, enriching our neighbors, and ultimately ceding sovereignty to remove the sovereignty of others.

but being a very long term goal that produces upheaval in the short term as workers retrain - the detritus became unacceptable to a society with a myopic self-interested outlook. we're losing our seat at the table where we used to have absolute influence over the dissolution of sovereignty, now it is others who will set the terms. whether or not that world will include rights we hold sacrosanct remains to be seen.
