Me too, before I discovered Huginn. It's worth looking into if you have somewhere to run it. It literally has an agent to produce an alert when a website changes, which you can then route to an email agent or whatever you want. Takes 1 minute to add a new site to watch. Huginn can of course be integrated with other scripts.
