It's not Android it's the sms system itself.

Yes, but unlike android, iOS and Windows Phone show the SMS as one message when sent/received, even if it did take 2-3-whateve number of SMS to transmit.

Heck, even old Nokia 3310 was smart enough to show as one (up to 460 characters if I remember well).
