And this isn't due to the election, but this was something I keep meaning to look into because I think if I ever retire, I want to retire to Canada to live in an isolated cabin away from society. I sometimes fear I am not fit to be within a society for more personal reasons so I just want to find tranquility among nature. I heard Canada was perfect for this compared to other nations like Scandinavian ones. However, I do not want to renounce my citizenship for a country I was born into. If I just went up north and construct a log cabin then reside there for six years, do I really apply for citizenship?

Yes, but the only way to get it is to challenge a Canadian to a duel at the border (and win). Conversely, if the Canadian wins the duel they get your American citizenship. That's why they're called duel citizens.

Cathy you're shit out of luck under current immigration laws in Canada. Not long ago IF YOU Had a lot of money then staying as a resident was not so much so difficult.
Year to year Canada makes it more difficult for people from USA and other friendly countries to retire there. They are a lot like Australia used to be. Canada and Australia have always tried to attract very well educated and somewhat wealthy immigrants. Currently its much easier for a Syrian to apply for residency and get help a job and of course medical care.
Assume the laws remain the same and as I said they have been increasingly more difficult over the years so the only plan that will work for you is to get an advanced degree and save a bunch of money so you can do your log cabin bit in Canada. Dual Citizenship is not a problem

Its all NORTH towards the Pole ya No - The closer u get to the Pole the colder it gets. Great for Skiing really GREAT for Skiing - But once I am done Skiing I get the hell out of there

Yes but you do have one of the greatest Parks in USA Boulder Creek State Park and a couple of amazing Surf spots and quality dramatic beaches - Really one hell of a fantastic part of California
