so it would seem that time warner cable, my ISP, sold off part of it's dallas network to Charter cable, who is rebranding parts of the DFW area as Charter Spectrum for internet service. interestingly, i was paying for 30/10 through time warer, and it was a bit of a premium price. it certainly wasn't their base 10/5 or whatever their cheapest package was. but, after the merger, i'm now getting 100/10 for the same price i was previously paying. both google and ookla agree that my downloads are faster than ever.
it's actually got me kinda peeved. yeah, the faster speeds are great, but i've been paying the same price for less than half the bandwidth and literally all they had to do was flip a switch and evidently there's still money to be made at that price point without needing to throttle speeds by 70%. Time Warner is a real piece of shit.

Same down this way. I live at the intersection of TW now re-branded Spectrum and Cox Cable - In theory I am forced to use Spectrum yet my next door neighbor is forced to use Cox. So with a shake of hands both of us end up with both services. I use one strictly for business and the other for play.
Now you are lucky you ended up with the increased speed without doing anything BUT you have nothing to lose for looking at the current Modem they offer and compare that to the one you have.
You most likely paid for your Modem to stop the nonsense of TW charging month by month and most subscribers to TW-Spectrum were renting the Modem (many still are) What they do not no is - Spectrum's policy is to supply a new Modem at no charge.
The one I bought at Fry's over heated when Spectrum toggled the speed switch (removed the filter) So a quick run to Spectrum and was handed a new Modem after signing my life away cause they make sure they want it back if you leave them for say Verizon or AT&T -
Depending on where you live the Max speed will drop a lot more than the shared network dropped you in the past. So for the fun of it test out your speed with Ookla during high traffic hours.

so i guess maybe they're giving me 100/30 or something. i kinda don't want to call them and ask and risk bringing their attention to some kind of mistake on their end. "Ooops, let's just dial that back."
the modem i've got is pretty new, i had a really old linksys modem that worked up to 15Mbps but when i bumped up to 30 i needed a docsis 3.0 modem. the one i got is a motorola and has a max transfer rate of 195Mbps

Naw I wood show you a link [Spectrum is running TV ads that you should see soon and can look up re new policy of speed for all]
but am ready to roll out and do a 45 minute lecture so a new crew can hit the road and Y? To test Speeds of upload download via Wireless of the future - Lots of vans moving around town at various speeds and next to hills and into valleys and under tunnels etc - This stuff goes on and on year after year and then STOPS and waits till market pressures force MORE BETTER STUFF
This project however is not market driven its driven by - I dare not say cause someone going to ask does it make sense to spend so much money now when return on investment is a bit beyond 2024 and depends on technology developed in time to make a new product possible (now simulated with one hell of a lot of computer chips to sub in)
You by the way provided me with a joke that really made my day and many others except a few VP's of a company - Yesterday I suggested that a lab gin up a Cell phone for me with water cooled CPU with the cooler one of those super inefficient solid state chips designed just to cool other chips (Thermocouple in reverse) and only need a MUCH Larger external batter like say a car battery.
All the engineers laffed cause currently the test phones have external battery to keep all the added CPU's happy and the #1 complaint is the phone is so hot to handle we had to buy the test teks gloves.
You can also heat a cup of coffee up by putting it on top of a phone on the desk. All plastic replaced of course cause the first beta units melted lots of internal shit
