Freud's theories are quite interesting to examine. And one can see how later psychology built upon his ideas. But still, they aren't very applicable in modern times.

I'm pretty sure psychodynamic therapy is still around, at least in the states. I knew some people who were studying it while I was an undergrad. I know I've seen papers on psychodynamic perspectives about this or that. While it doesn't necessarily call itself "Freudian" therapy, psychodynamic practices follow a lot of the same ideas that neo-Freudianism worked off of in terms of unconscious processes and underlying mental states.

Oh yeah, I've heard about psychodynamic therapy too. I heard it referenced while I was on my clinical placement.
I'm talking specfically about the "headline" Freudian theories, like psychosexual development, the tripartite thing, or the Oedipus/Electra complex stuff. Sorry, I should've clarified that.
There are good, effective ideas that came out of Freudian theory, of course. But the OP lead with the ID, ego, superego theory, which made it seem like he was pitching outdated psychodynamic theory as a valid thing. Which has happened a few times, here on Minichan.

Yeah, I don't know that I agree with all that psychodynamic theory pitches either. I just thought I'd point out that there are current methodologies that are working off of a largely Freudian base.
I do think that you are certainly correct in saying there are no psychiatrists that embrace purely Freudian approach.
