I'm quite aware of all the things you are attempting to do, including your foisting of dependency upon the "mastermind" on a certain substance. It's the old Ickean story of the mad scientist. Through various iterations, they are invariably hooked on something: the version of the story I use is the one whose body was rendered to be dependent on bags of liquid gold.
