Cioran went around from campus to campus (when they didn't want him) in his native Romania, pretending to be an academic and building his prestige on annoying persistence of trying to tender the mundane into the interestingly abstract by force of contrived reason. Nothing really different in what Zizek tried to do with an abuse of tired deconstructive dialectics on things that ought not to be so methodologically raped. A former acquaintance of mine tried to introduce me to him, and he came of immediate distaste; I'm able to draw the comparison having actually read some of both.

So you see him as a fake who just lives of prestige that he creates by making the boring none boring. Fair enough but what do you mean that he came of immediate distaste?
Regardless though, I don't see a great harm being done here.

His politics reek of leftism as soon as you learn his contrarianly ambiguous position on Occupy. It had leaned too close to tacit support in a "What would I [Zizek] do" sort of way to be a proper critique.
