Nothing worse than waking up to realize it wasn't real.After that trying to get back to sleep so desperately.

Try a recurring dream sequence where you get to know the girl and her family, each time getting closer to actually having a relationship, and waking to reality. And knowing you will be dissapointed with life in another month or so with the next sequence.

This happens to you? You have multiple related dreams?
I'm not sure if that is better or worse. I've tried to forget the ~10 I've had in my lifetime that really got to me.

Yeah, in the last one I actually got to hold her in my arms before waking up. In the same dream I stole bikes with her three brothers, one older and two younger. In the dream I am something like a foreign exchange student, but i don't ever dream about the classes (I'm assuming its a college thing, the people in my dream age with me and they started 2 years ago) the design of the city is dense enough to be in Japan, but the people look more Chinese in their features and dress. Its quite an amazing experience, but I never have more than one dream like that a month, sometimes its even longer between them.

Forget falling in love, I had what trip mentioned, except that every time I go to sleep, I wake up the same alternate reality where I was born a girl. What was truly devastating and actually drove me into a deep depression was the last dream in the sequence where my last words were "I only have one day left before I have to be a boy again." I haven't had that sequence of dreams again, but I think I fell in love with that life, and now I try to bring it back but I can't.
It's worse than realising it wasn't real because I actually feel like it was, so high was the dream quality and is my memory of it.

Try lucid dreaming? She can be the dream sign, of course, and then you can stay in the dream longer. Perhaps you can be with her more if you can control the dream better.

I definatly try, but I can't conjure her into my dreams, its like she shows up when she wants to. But thanks for reminding me, I can't forget about being lucid.

I keep having this recurring nightmare where I'm grinding my teeth for hours and hours. Supposedly dreams about yourteeth have something to do with worries about your physical appearance.

Something similar happened to me where after my grandmother died I had a lot of dreams with her in them, and they were very vivid, sort of lucid dreams. They weren't flashback dreams to a time when she was still alive. The dreams were, as you put it, a sort of alternate reality where she was still alive. She rarely ever spoke in these dreams though. Part of me wondered if the dreams were a sort of alternate reality where she was still alive, or if it was really her visiting me from the afterlife. I'm more inclined to believe it was just my mind's way of coping with the loss. In one of the dreams, I kind of flipped and told her that I knew for a fact that she was dead and that this couldn't be real. She just frowned and looked very disappointed, and then I woke up, and I haven't seen her in my dreams since then. If these dreams were, as I suspect, a mechanism my mind used to cope with the loss, then I guess that final dream was the build up to acceptance and that's why I haven't seen her since. If there really is an afterlife and it really was her, I can't help but wonder if that dream was really me turning my back on the possibility that they were more than just dreams, and maybe that's the reason I haven't seen her since.

Funny you should mention it my friend died a few years back in a car crash. To make a long story short I was attracted to his best friend. A few weeks after the funeral I started having dreams with my dead friend in them, kinda like an alternative reality. In the dreams I keep begging my friend for his blessing to ask his bestfriend out and he just stands there looking at me, saying nothing.
Then in one of the dreams I just freaked out and told him that he was dead and there was nothing he could do to stop me. That was the end of the dreams.

Do you think those dreams helped you cope with the loss of your friend? Maybe it wasn't so much that you wanted your friend's blessing, but rather you couldn't date this person until you were done coping with the loss. You wouldn't have felt right about it. The final dream wasn't really you telling him off. It was really your acceptance of the loss that allowed you to move forward with his best friend.

I dream about women a lot, then I wake up to the nightmarish reality of real world relationships. Either I'm an asshole, or women are just too goddamn much trouble. Maybe its a little of both.
