Topic: Is Rogue One a big gamble on Disney's part?

Anonymous A started this discussion 10 years ago #56,095

Because this movie could literally make or break their plans for a greater Star Wars cinematic universe. While the movie WILL be a huge financial success due to the hundreds of nerds who'll go see it due to its brand recognition. Bad criticism CAN affect the future of movies. Look up other planned trilogies such as The Golden Compass and The Last Airbender. While one of those films were a financial success, it got numerous bad reviews that no sequels have been greenlighted.

So what happens if Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is a financial or critical failure? Would Episode VIII and Episode IX be the only Star Wars films planned? I'm sure Disney would hate to go back on their promise for the sequel trilogy, but what if this anthology film is a success? Will this lead to sequels for this specific movie?

What do you think?

I think that Star Wars is far, far stronger than The Golden Compass or The Last Airbender. It will be fine.

Darth Vader can be played by anyone and they probably have the tech to get the voice right. He can tie together 40 years of movies, and kick start the next 40 years of spin off storylines.

Darth Disney knows what's up

@previous (C)
Disney does have a secondary option in case James Earl Jones dies.
The guy who portrays Chad Vader usually does the voice of Vader for video games and other media.
