If you haven't heard about this the developers mentioned a LOT of features that were never in the final game.

I know, lad.

I wonder what'll come of it? I personally have never heard of an investigation like this succeeding when it comes to video games, but the apparent backlash suggests the critics might have a strong case, here.

According to the article the ASA has
In 2014, the ASA said it was misleading to call the mobile Dungeon Keeper remake "free-to-play" because the game functionally required many in-app purchases to be playable. In 2013, Sega was forced to admit that early trailers for Aliens: Colonial Marines were noticeably sharper than the final product. And back in 2006, the group went after misleading Call of Duty advertisements.

I would say that this is a lot more blatant than those examples except for maybe Aliens. This game has screenshots and trailers on the Steam page that isn't even in the game ffs.

I see. Sounds like the ASA will find them guilty, then.

Any idea what the consequences will be if the investigation finds the developers to be at fault? Would refunds be offered, I wonder?

You'd probably know better than me but it's not a government organization right? I'd think they just make them correct the advertising and maybe release a statement?
Also, Steam already has refunds and NMS got refunded A LOT.

Nah. Apparently the ASA is an independent organisation:

That's a fair point about the Steam refunds. I guess all the ASA can do is what you suggested, then.

Deveiving the customers seems like it should incur a bit more than a slap on the wrist, but I suppose it's still good the matter is being looked into by professionals.

> preordering a game that sounds too good to be true from a studio with no reputation
If you are dumb enough to do that i feel like you don't deserve the money back.

Joe Danger wasn't exactly a famous or complex game, though. I think he's right to say that this was a red flag, as that studio hadn't previously done anything like that.
