btw, kook, a dude i work with had a similar issue a few years ago when they got flooded. their neighbors dug a trench and diverted water away from a flooded storm drain (the water had pooled up to their door) and the runoff went down an alley and right into my coworkers house. flooded up to their knees. the runoff emptied the storm drain and caused a lot of damage when the flow carried away more earth than was expected and got really, really bad. all that backed up water that should have emptied into a field, never made it over the berm the way it was supposed to because they fucking rerouted it. it kept one dude from having a flooded yard, but ended up flooding an entire home for 3 days.
the damage was enough they took their insurance and moved. there was a lawsuit too, the insurance company sued the neighbor for violations of ordinances or building codes or something.
i don't understand what is going through denmark guy's brain with this. i really don't get his confusion and i really don't understand his weird incredulity over the whole thing...

If high water is a problem, any extra water is unwelcome. If someone floods a couple of houses because they want their lawn to drain they are probably gonna get their ass sued by the insurance companies covering the houses.

They still get wet in floods though.
Floods are not just low lands completely swamped with water all around for miles, and that water level rises slowly in all areas as water is trapped and stays there not flowing away, just rising.
Floods also occur when you have slightly more water arriving than there is leaving. The water level rises slowly but that will only happen as long as the incoming outweighs the outgoing. The flood where you are will slowly recede when incoming slows and outgoing water can drain away.
This can be achieved by channeling water away from your church car park by digging a trench and increasing your outgoing water flow. What that might do is increase the total water flowing into the retirement home, and outweigh their outflow of water thus raising their water level. They are trying to drain water away from their area and block incoming water. Digging a trench and channeling water in that direction will increase flood water levels at the retirement home and gain you a fierce enemy.

we know fuck all about european geography. here's something you euros can do for fun - draw america and name the 50 states. if you get more than 5 right (new york, florida, texas, california being the 4 most people CAN identify) then you can complain we can't draw and name all the states in euroland.
but even then it's still stupid to assume non locals know your geography as well as locals. but i'll wait for your hand drawn, detailed, and correctly labeled map. (no cheating!)

uh, idk dude, we had to take a few years of geography along side history class (which was mostly european history, btw, before touching on early American and eventually current events)
i've never needed to use geography since school anyway since literally it's only usefull on tests. i just can't see how not knowing the exact location of a tiny country in relation to, like, say, Germany or something, is going to improve my day-to-day life. europeans are just touchy that their countries are all so small, misshapen and obscure.

no, you can't blame me because i don't live there and your geography doesn't impact me, so i have no reason to know it and certainly zero reason to retain that knowledge for a significant amount of time. it's not like i make the drive up the E45 every day, so, you know, it's not like i've got a lifetime of living there to reinforce local geography. i can, however, tell you how to get to at least half of the states in this country without needing to look at a map because i know the highways.

4 hours apart. cities in texas are further apart than that... i was off by, like, 240 miles. actually more like 200 by crow... is the weather even different? it's not like i've confused denmark for somewhere far away from denmark. they are literally neighbors.
i wonder if you know whether dallas in in North Texas, South Texas, Central Texas, West Texas or East Texas (all very distinct regions culturally) without looking at a map of Texas. and just for perspective it takes 12 hours to drive from East Texas across to West Texas.

actually that's pretty wrong, central texas is very, very hispanic and culturally very close to mexico. South Texas is culturally mexican. predominantly. it would be hard to tell the difference between south texas and north mexico if not for building code differences. also, several cities, such as Brownsville share a border with a sister city (Matamoros) in mexico that actually create one large metroplex with a single road running through the middle and across the border. in a border town, you would really only know you were in america if they give you change in dollars. so yes, South Texas and Mexico are essentially the same thing.
