Topic: Any believers in a physical Hell?

Anonymous A started this discussion 10 years ago #55,278

Anyone who has ever committed an actual sin themselves, even a "little white" lie, deserves eternal torment in Hell. It is only by God's grace that we have the opportunity to turn from our sins and start over.

The torments of Hell have been described many ways. One particular description I think conveys it the best is that Hell is like sitting around a campfire with other people you once considered friends, but now hate. You all have lots and lots of delicious food, but you are physically incapable of feeding yourselves. You are capable of feeding each other, but even the very idea of doing so never occurs to you because you are so filled with hatred. So you sit there together starving with all the delicious food, never eating it, for eternity.

I think I believe in it. An eternal hell could be the only real motivation for righteous living. If you thought you could eventually get out of it, then no one would live righteously.

You don't think empathy for the human condition might compel people to do good in spite of the fact that their sins wouldn't matter if they die?

Well see, this is interesting to consider. I presume that there are people with some capacity for empathy, some with a lot, some with very little. There's those sociopath types. Evolutionary history seems to have given us this outcome of various sorts of people, whether some of them got there mostly from birth with or without epigentic factors or from experience or whatever, this is what we end up with. Sometimes you get some god damn kid who can't fucking behave like a proper human being unless you make him shitting his pants with fear that he's going to get choked to death, and has no fuckin respect for anthing else. Piece of shit.

You are allowed to kill that kid, then say sorry to God, next minute you are totally fine and going to heaven. Hungry friendly campfire hell is for the bastards that don't say sorry for killing that kid.

Like you can rape and murder and do whatever the fuck you want, and a passing thought and 10 seconds later you are legit allowed to go to heaven.
